FAQs

What is PTO?

1

The Whit Davis Elementary Parent Teacher Organization is a nonprofit group of parent and teacher volunteers who partner with Whit Davis Elementary administration and school staff to support our students and strengthen our school community.

While we work closely with Whit Davis Elementary, the PTO operates independently of the Clarke County School District and is funded entirely through fundraising efforts, donations, and the generosity of our school community.

Those funds help provide classroom resources, fulfill teacher requests, support school programs, and create fun events and traditions for our Wildcat families. Every parent or guardian is welcome to get involved!

How do I join PTO?

2

It's easy—you've already taken the first step by being part of the Whit Davis community! There are no membership forms, registration requirements, or dues to join the PTO.

Simply attend a PTO meeting (check the Calendar for the next meeting), sign up for our email list to stay informed, or visit the Volunteer page to see current opportunities to get involved. Whether you can help once a year or throughout the school year, we'd love to have you!

How do you spend the funds you raise?

3

Thanks to the generosity of our families, volunteers, teachers, sponsors, and community partners, the PTO has been able to support a wide variety of programs, classroom needs, and special events. In recent years, PTO funding has helped provide:

  • Extra food and supplies for the Whit Davis Black History Month Celebration

  • Decorations and supplies for the Whit Davis parade float in the Athens-Clarke County Christmas Parade

  • Baking classes to enhance Whit's After School Program

  • A special St. Patrick's Day celebration for students

  • Funding to support the school's Hispanic Heritage Celebration

  • An author visit to inspire and engage our students

  • Free dinner and childcare for every monthly PTO meeting, making it easier for families to participate

  • Family events such as the Fall Festival, school dances, Holiday Shop, Wildcat Walk, Chili Cook-Off & Bingo Night, and other community-building activities

  • Teacher requests, classroom materials, and other school needs throughout the year

These are just a few examples of how our funds are spent. Every dollar raised by the PTO stays at Whit Davis Elementary and directly benefits our students, teachers, and school community.

Who organizes PTO?

4

Simply put—we all do! The PTO is made up of parents, teachers, staff, and volunteers working together to make Whit Davis Elementary an even better place for our kids. Whether you volunteer at one event or help throughout the year, every contribution makes a difference.

Our leadership team consists of four elected officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. New officers are elected each May for the following school year.
